Our History

The story of Mountain View Primary and Infant School begins in 1967, when visionary educators recognized the need to expand educational opportunities in Eastern Kingston. Born as an extension of the prestigious Excelsior High School, our institution started its journey under the dedicated leadership of Mr. W.A. Campbell, the school's first principal, who conducted the initial classes in the hall of Excelsior Gymnasium. Just one year after its founding, the growing school moved across the avenue to its own dedicated building, marking a significant milestone in its development. Beautifully situated at the foot of Long Mountain on Mountain View Avenue, the institution was renamed Mountain View All Age School, establishing its identity as an independent educational center serving the local community. The 1980s brought important changes that would shape the school's future direction. In 1981, recognizing the need to focus on primary education, the institution was transformed into Mountain View Primary School. This strategic shift allowed for more specialized attention to the crucial early years of education, laying stronger foundations for students' academic journeys. Over the decades, Mountain View has become deeply rooted in the communities it serves, particularly Hampstead Park, Top Range, Nannyville Gardens, and Swallowfield. The school has consistently demonstrated its commitment to inclusive education, serving families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and proving that excellence in education knows no boundaries. In 2018, Mountain View achieved another significant milestone by expanding to include infant education, officially becoming Mountain View Primary and Infant School. This evolution reflects the institution's ongoing commitment to comprehensive early childhood education and its recognition by the Early Childhood Commission. Today, with modern facilities including a Digicel STEM Centre, award-winning programs in cheerleading and sports, and a wide range of clubs and activities, Mountain View continues to honor its founding mission of providing quality education while adapting to meet the evolving needs of 21st-century learners.
